Breakdown From The Libya Turmoil
During the past weeks we have witnessed the borders of Libya choked full of thousands of Indians, Egyptians, Chinese, Filipinos, Turks, Germans, English, Italians, Malaysians, Koreans and other nationals. What we don’t get from the people who are reporting and breaking news in Libya is why these people in Libya. What were these people doing in Libya if Libya was such a bad and dangerous country? What we get from these journalists is a recycled one sided news views and analysis pointing to what they think we want to know. We only get a one sided view as to why Gaddafi is such senseless bad character who is not focused who has run his country down.
We are told both by western media and Al Jazeera that unemployment in Libya is 3%. Well that compared to United States of America it supposes that Libyan politicians were doing a better Job compared to Barack Obama who is assertive enough to pontificate that Gaddafi must go.
Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s situation is not that simple like Hosni Mubarak or the rest of North Africa. His rule has been a combination of African and Arab cultures. He has been vociferous in trying to bring North Africa with its dominance by Arab culture with the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa. He once led the African Union as Chairperson where he spoke of and cemented his view of a United States of Africa. The view of United States of Africa as been there in another name of Pan Africanism as proclaimed by such respected first class African leaders like Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana.
While I was living in Ethiopia, during African Union summit of leader’s sessions, I use to witness Gaddafi surrounded by African chiefs. And I remember being fascinated by this picture and wondering at its intentions and meanings.
All governments of the world are in essence inherently and intrinsically bad. Governments are about politics and politicians, and we all know how politics can get so rotten, even the politicians we might admire. If each of us could look at our own governments we will discover things which will make us shake our heads in concern.
Does this analysis I have just offered make me a Gaddafi supporter and thereby become enemy of Libyan resilience? Does what I have just said make me to be against the people of Libya who are in revolt against Gaddafi’s rule? I don’t think that should be the conclusion, I am a firm supporter of democracy but while on the other hand I believe that democracy is not and has not be the ultimate doctrine of rule. I certainly support the majority of Libyans who want to redefine themselves outside Muammar Gaddafi. They have made a choice and I believe Gaddafi should respect them and work out solution, seek a peaceful transitional development.
